Biografía

Javier Cárcamo

Guatemalan artist and writer, exponent of the surrealistic art.
The techniques and mediums that he uses are primarily oil, acrylic,
xylography, intaglio and direct carving.
Alongside other artists, he created the murals that decorate the walls of the Universidad Popular de Guatemala, murals that illustrate the history of art. 
He is one of the precursors of ink and engravings in blood. 
His pictorial collection Gods you are (Dioses Sois), created with human and animal blood,  was presented during two long periods in the year 2001.

 

Biography.

 

Cárcamo was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. At the age of 14 he began studying at the Roberto Cabrera Padilla Plastic Arts School, in the Universidad Popular, where he became interested in academic art.

 

During his years as a student he experimented with diverse painting and sculpture techniques. His first personal exhibition was "Stigio '99", at the age of 19. Later he exhibited "The Tunnel of the Massacres", "Reliving the Scene of the Crime", "After Hours of Thought" and "Gods You Are", a series which presented paintings and engravings created with blood.

In 2001 he joined his teacher, the artist Jorge Corleto, on a project consisting of a series of murals that illustrate the history of art. These murals can be found on the walls of the Universidad Popular in Guatemala City.

On March 4, 2020 he inaugurated his exhibition "Art is not explained" (El arte no s explica), a series presented in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Rafael Rodríguez Padilla National School of Plastic Arts, Cultural Heritage of Guatemala.

 

As writer, he made debut in the year 2003, with the publication of his book "Words that you would never dedicate" (Palabras que Nunca Dedicarías), with a prologue written by the French philologist Géry Faivré de Arcier.

 

In September, 2008, he presented his second book, "What I Wrote While You Were Hiding" (Lo que escribí mientras te escondías), a selection of prose written between 2004 and 2007.  The prologue was provided by the Guatemalan writer Gustavo Bracamonte.

In 2019 he presented the novel "The Apotheosis of the Stones", a fantastic and psychological novel.
